Excerpt From "IN THE SHADOW OF THE CHERUBIM" By Nancy Arant Williams Putting one foot in front of the other, she kept her hand on the wall for balance and slowly made her way down the stairs. In the kitchen, she shook out a capsule, filled a cup with water and swallowed it. She turned to leave and bumped head on into a man, standing in the doorway. "Remember me, lady? We met in the hospital." "Oh, sure," she said before collapsing in a dead faint on the kitchen floor. She woke tied to a kitchen chair, the only light shining from over the sink. A small click sounded, and someone shined a flashlight in her face.
